ozark highlands trail

Sometimes it's restorative to unplug and go play in nature.

So my good friend Rob and I did exactly that. We went to conquer a section of the Ozark Highlands Trail in Arkansas. Neither of us had experienced just how beautiful NW AR can be. Mother Nature did not disappoint. She gave us a little of everything. Rain, wind, cold, warmth and the most epic morning fog ever. Watch out, AR...we will be back for more...

Go play in nature. Your soul will thank you.

10 things we've learned in 2 years as parents

Norah is almost 2 years old.

There...I've said it...

In fact, she turned 20 months today!

Here are 10 things we've learned from our first two years parenting

1. You will step on at least one abandoned Cheerio per day.

2. Hide-n-seek can pretty much cure all.

3. You must stay limber at all times. Dance breaks can happen at any time and without warning.

4. Parents weren't kidding when they said the songs will stay with you. It is commonplace for me to be at work and start humming the theme song to Sid the Science Kid.

5. Apparently, Norah knows more languages than I do.

6. The trunk of a car can double as a mobile changing table in case of emergency.

7. The movies had it correct. Baby poop does make you gag.

8. Mikey Mouse is still little kid cryptonite.

9. Having a child is a true blessing from God.

10. Norah makes us the luckiest people in the world.

Christmas 2010

Wow!  2010 sure has been a landmark year for our family.  In September we welcomed our daughter, Norah, to the world.  In the same year we took a huge step forward in business and officially launched Kevin Ferstl Photography.  Thanks to all my past, present, and future clients!  You guys are what makes doing this awesome!  We are eternally grateful for letting us enter your lives and capture memories that your family will cherish for years to come.

Merry Christmas and God bless!

Meet Norah Addison Ferstl

What a difference a day makes.

August 30th. I celebrated turning 27 years of age.

August 31st. I went into work to be surprised by my wife, Josie, coming in after her doctor's appointment to let me know that shortly we were going to go to the hospital to have a baby!

September 1st. Norah Addison Ferstl came into this world and our lives were changed forever!

This was a week that I will never forget. Norah is the coolest little munchkin ever! I find so much daily inspiration while watching her. When she opens her eyes and looks around you see so much intrigue and curiosity. Everything is new. Everything is for the first time. She truly is a blessing from God to Josie and me.

Below are a few of my favorite pics from such a glorious day.

Cheers!

Live Music Rocks

One of my most favorite things to do is see live music.  There's just something magical about it.  Especially when the performance is in an intimate setting.

Enter the McPherson Opera House in McPherson, KS.  Earlier this month Josie and I had the opportunity to see one of our favorite musicians, Greg Laswell perform there.  Chances are you may not have heard of him.  However, if you watch shows like Grey's Anatomy, Castle, True Blood and Dollhouse; you've heard him.  He's a crazy, compelling person to watch perform. It was such a great show and a killer venue.  I could nearly reach out and touch him....insane!

If you can catch him live while he is on tour, DO IT!

Plus he's on Twitter @GregLaswell.

Below is a video I shot of Greg playing a song called "Take A Bow" using a pump organ which he had just purchased.  Very Cool!

Celebrating A Life

There are only a handful of men whom I would consider my ultimate role models.  My Grandfather is most certainly one of the choice members.

He has always fallen into the category of a "great" Grandfather.  Now with Norah on the way it's only a matter of time until he is both the noun and the adjective.

Plus he looks stylin' in his new hat!
